Economies of Resistance - call for mail art

Open call for designs articulating your visions for reform and social change, including proclamations, manifestos and more. A south London market stall will function as a lo-fi resistance themed discussion platform on International Labour Day (May 1st) with related events throughout the day. The project aims to proposition positive changes to neo-liberal dogma whilst generating dialogue between different opinions involved. Your participation will help to locate and establish alternative visions; providing a comprehensive snapshot of contemporary social, political, cultural and ethnic aspirations. Limiting submissions to A4 format or smaller, interested artists are urged to develop an economy of means, offering cultural agency in accessible and proliferative form for an age where culture is often consumed in bite-sized pieces.

Details
For consistence, unity and for ease of postage, transportation and dissemination works are requested to be no larger than A4 size (210 x 297mm). Original works cannot be returned. Conceptual works or related performance proposals are welcome. Events scheduled for Sunday May Day 2011 10am-4pm at Tooting Market as part of the Market POST programme. There are no submission fees and no work will be for sale.

The censorship always present, this time in México. A group integrated by zealots, the clergy and the government authorities stoped a performance feautered by Rocio Boliver, alledgling "morally offensive conduct". This claim what headed by Mr. Francisco Torres Marmolejo, president of The Comunal Meeting and various local religious extremist. Rocio Boliver -a.k.a. The Frozen grape- performed "Close the Legs" in the First Encounter of Counterculture. She was invited to participate in the Conference “February, Art and Erotism at Serrano House” the past 26th of February in Los Lagos city, Guadalajara, México. This participation was canceled as many violent threats were received. "Serrano House" is administered by both, the University Student Center and its Rector is Mr. Roberto Castelán. The censor group demanded Mr Roberto Castelán's resignation as he allowed Boliver's performance participation in the mentioned event.

We condemn the censorship to the free artistic expression from Rocio Boliver. Her performances always criticized the pretended morality of the ruling class. We believe she is being victim of a true witch-hunt. Therefore we request all performance artists in the world to give us your support against censorship. The performance as artistic expression marginal, belonging to the underground movements. It is a universal method to communicate these un-justice and wrong doings to the public. We request feedback, support comments for Rocio Boliver and the free artistic expression to these emails:

Readers, this is mail art in that it uses mail, but it's different from most of the calls on Crosses.Net Mail Art Forums as follows:

a) it's directed and therefore compromised

b) it's for an existing artwork rather than a mail art show

But this still involves snail mail, not email, because a made mark is de facto required. So here goes - I positively welcome mail response to add to an ongoing artwork called "Falco subbuteo subbuteo (The Hobby)". It's about birdwatching (and art).

A bird may or may not have been removed from that picture. You are invited to print off a pdf (see link on web page) and then use your skill and judgment to mark the exact center of the bird on the picture. If you then send it back to me at the location quoted on the pdf, supplying your name and address where shown, I’ll cut it out and put your contribution on a table in front of an enlarged version of the image. And put it in two art exhibitions, one in London in Nov 2008, the other in Plymouth in Feb 2008. And more shows, as the piece grows and time moves on.

If you are really up for it, by all means make a number of marks on the paper, at no cost to you beyond your time and inclination. Or make just one (mark). Or whatever. And if you're really worried about identity, just make up a name and address. But I need people to enter some sort of details there or else the whole point is lost.

So, what is everyone up to? Are you working on anything special? What type of mailart do you like to do most?
I mostly work on 4 x 6 (post card size) Bristol board. First I draw my picture with a pencil so I can erase and change things, then I go over it with a pen or Sharpie, and then I add color with either watercolors or brush markers.
