About two years ago I started designing a web site, that when I attempted to put it online, didnt work as my links were all broken. I subsequently lost all interest.

Recently I have had a little energy to put what I made back then online, as well as linking it all together so that it works, I have also started to make a few updates.

The site is still in the stage of being checked and updated, so appologies if some of the wording does not make total sense, this will be corrected in time.

Hi jc, I tried your site but when i attempted a go to some of the pages, I kept getting a massage that said the site was only avaliable if one was on line...the funny thing was...I WAS ON LINE...is it me, or my computer or both...OR a third unseen, unimagined contingency or agent/agency that is at work? If I started sacrificing gerbils at the base of my computer screen, do you think it would work better? (I am just kidding people, I would never REALLY sacrafice gerbils, please no hate mail!)

Many thanks for you all for posting feedback on the board, its been really usefull in allowing me to evaluate what I have done so far.

I have become aware that the site in the main seems to be working, though it appears that this is not the case all of the time. I am thinking that if it works for some of you, then any problems that there are may be with the hosting at Yahoo, Ive heard some strange stories about yahoo, and also this evening had strange experience of them as well (another site I made has overnight changed its address..hummm) Of course the problems are more likely to have more to do with my inexperience at web design.

As far as the images are concerned, there are some on there, though what there is are all thumbnails. I have as yet, not managed to get as far as linking them to pages, which, with a click will take you to the full size image, this will come in time, appologies if it takes me ages, Im afraid like most I am time poor.

More images will appear as well in time, I am hoping that the site will be a means of doccumenting more of my projects both past and present (both using text and images). I also plan someday to get my entire archive scanned and made accessable, though this will be most likely on a cd rom, with odd pieces put online as a sample.

As I know, scanning pictures from archive will take a lot of time. And, possibly, it will take several CD ROMs: one A4 picture in 300dpi resolution can be 1M or more, so you can place 500-600 pictures to one CD. If you'll scan all with no selection, it will be possibly only one-two years on one CD (capacity of DVD is at least 4 times more).

In any case, I'm interested in this CD(s) and will exchange on some of my.

If yopu scan images it all depends on the resolution and the file compression trechnique.

An A4 scanned takes 1 MByte as a TIFF or BMP file

If saves (or concerted) into a JPG file it only takes 200 Kbytes (5 timesd less). That way one can place a lot on a site or on a CD.

If one reduces the size, one can end up at 80 kByte files, which are easily handled by the internet. I am doing that now for the newer images that i put online.

And from quantityof colors on picture, relation between filled by color and empty space, etc. From practice (JPEG): 300dpi images A4 can be from 300K (b/w simple image) till 1M (complex color). It's specifics of JPEG compression algorithm.

Much more, Ruud! Till 20M or more as uncompressed TIFF.

It's all true (1M TIFF can be 200K or less JPEG).

Dear Friends, I am a Specialist? in working with picture-files at my job.
however.

For Internet you need only jpg and gif format.

for internet the best solution is to convert your files into jpeg jpg.

If you have not the software for this try freeware like

IRFANVIEW

use www.google.com search for it , download it and work with it.

Click on file - export - Jpg and choose the compression you want.
