<HTML>It is a tradition for Wizards in multi user dimensions to determine the rules of their domain and to act to protect cultural balances within the multi-user population of that domain. A message board is a multi user domain. Merlin is its wizard. Cultural norms from the early Internet days of text-based virtual reality MUDs and MOOs such as respect for the powers of wizards grew from new social needs, needs of disembodied personae represented only by texts built of pixels. The rules that Merlin can wield are not 1960's rules, but 1990's rules derived from Internet citizens, not mail artists. Deleting off topic posts is a common Internet strategy in online communities and does not constitute censorship. I stand behind Merlin's actions to delete off-topic posts.</HTML>

what is off-topic?

<HTML>What is off topic? Isn't this an open forum to communicate with each other?</HTML>

<HTML>The topic is what interests the people who read this. Mail art, the two words have a meaning. Mail = communicating. Art = To create something.

So discussing postal rates and the costs of mail to abroad is an off topic for me.

Funny to see the reactions to the Klaus Rupp article you found. Someone wonders if it is Klaus Rupp. Just follow the link you posted and you will understand the joke.

Where are the creative people on this board?</HTML>

<HTML>-- The topic of mail art covers many subtopics.
-- Try listing them all in a research paper!
-- Here are a few topics within the subject of mail art that I'd like to see other mail artists discuss:
mail art histories
mail art chronicles
mail art calls, invitations
mail art documentation
mail art presents
mail art futures
mail art theories - evolved and evolving and devolving
mail as performance, art, literature, movement, poetry, music
mail art as community
mail art culture
mail art sub cultures
mail art people, individuals and demographics
mail art and changing infrastructures
mail artists' transspecializations
the fates of mail art archives
mail art web installations
mail art in person
congresses
performances
poetry
videos
political actions
artist stamps
mail art and museums
mail art sales
mail art in private collections of non mail artists
research institutions and mail art
mail art manifestos
mail art in relation to other art movements
strange attractors in mail art
self-organizing systems in mail art
The more I know about mail art the more I know there is to know.</HTML>

<HTML>you write:

The more I know about mail art the more I know there is to know.

And yet a researcher should know that the right sentence is:

the more you know the better you know how little you know!

Please think again about your statement. If you know a lot about mail-art you actually know the real scope of what you are dealing with. No joke Honoria!</HTML>

Re: I am not Craig!

<HTML>Sympatico!
I am not Craig either.

Because I am researching I learn something new about mail art every day. Until a time comes when the flood of information coming my way becomes redundant I can only imagine what I don't know about mail art exceeds what I do know. That tip of the iceberg view of my research is based, not only on information theories, but also on the fact that I've been learning about mail art for many years and new info keeps on flowing. Perhaps because mail art network's multigeneration population is ever changing and involved in explorations and shifts in techniques, themes, arguments, manifesti and media.

I do not believe there is a real, pin downable, quantifyable "scope" of mail art. Mail art is a body electric, and now, also a body electronic. I feel mail art's pulses through the lively flow to and from my mail box and on the net. I just ordered Craig Saper's new book "Networked Art" that is said to have a lot about mail art in it. Also there is a new Ray Johnson book published by the Belkin Art Gallery that I am ordering.
Are you a mail artist?
If you are a mail artist, I'd guess that you'd be Blaster Al Ackerman so let's see some of the creative sides of bigg boss.</HTML>

you always jump to conclusions before you know what is going on. I am someone else. I also like the challenge of provocation......</HTML>
